Plastic-free solution

Ecotrend is a company offering environmentally conscious solutions and is committed to distributing sustainable, health-friendly packaging materials. Today, when plastic and plastic-coated paper products cause serious environmental and health problems, a responsible choice is especially important.

Many disposable plastic or plastic-coated paper products – including take-away cups and boxes – contain toxic substances that do not biodegrade and pollute the environment as microplastics. These substances not only enter the environment but can also enter the human body through water and food, posing long-term health risks.

Ecotrend provides a solution to this problem with the ecoinno® and the 2050® product lines we distribute. These disposable cups, plates, boxes, trays and cutlery are 100% plastic-free, biodegradable and made solely from plant fibres – the cutlery is from various grains, making them fully compostable, even in home compost, since they contain no substances harmful to health and are free from plastic or water-based coatings.

The ecoinno® products are not only environmentally friendly but also highly versatile: baking, chilling, storage, reheating/microwaving and serving in one container! Our GCM® (Green Compost Material) products are resistant to water, oil and food acids, and can be used from –196°C to +220°C.

Chemical- or plastic-coated dishes become unpleasantly odorous after heating, while ecoinno® products preserve the taste, aroma and freshness of foods.

Thus the ecoinno® products are not only an environmentally conscious choice but also a practical, safe and healthy alternative to traditional plastic-based or plastic-coated packaging materials. In this way we can help protect the planet while also safeguarding users’ health.

Wide range of possible uses - from the freezer to the oven

Commercially available paper containers and cups contain coatings to achieve liquid and oil resistance. These coatings may be PE (polyethylene), PLA (polylactic acid), CPLA (crystallised, heat-resistant PLA), or a water-based coating. During use and especially under heat, chemicals can leach from coatings, which are highly hazardous to health. And we don’t yet know what effects new coatings may have in the future! Unfortunately, on top of the health risks, many products also bear logos that apply yet more chemicals.

Moreover, these products cannot be used in a microwave or in an oven. A noticeable plastic odor can be observed when heating, for example in a microwave. Recycling of them is not straightforward either, as it is possible only under industrial conditions, which is costly.

Fortunately, the hazards of these materials have been recognised and measures have been taken in the European Union, for example it is mandatory to display the SUP logo on coated cups.

These environmental and health-damaging factors inspired the creator of the ecoinno® products. The aim was to create a disposable product that protects not only our health but also the planet. Plastic-free-ness was therefore a cardinal criterion in developing the ecoinno® products. Through an innovative technology, we succeeded in producing a paper product that meets all expectations: completely plastic-free and functionally on par with market plastic or plastic-coated disposable products. Widely usable are the boxes and containers, whether for baking or freezing! In addition to excellent heat resistance, an important factor is that, although the base material is purely plant fibre, no coating is required to achieve liquid- and oil-resistance thanks to the unique technology. Since they contain no substances harmful to health or the living world, they can be safely placed in home compost and biodegrade completely in about 75 days. For these outstanding properties, ecoinno® earned TÜV MARINE certification, which makes them unique on the market!

Why choose Ecoinno® products? 2025-10-07

Ecoinno® has developed the world’s first biodegradable GCM® material made from pure plant fibers, which is the only sustainable alternative to single or multiple-use plastics and plastic-coated
paper cups and boxes.

The impact of microplastics on the gastrointestinal tract 2025-09-16

Interesting connections have been found between microplastics and gut health in university students, according to research conducted at Shanxi Medical University. The study showed that microplastics were present in all participants in varying amounts, ranging from about 171 to 269 particles per 100 grams.

The New York Times: Microplastics Are Everywhere. Here’s How to Avoid Eating Them. 2025-05-06

Microplastics and nanoplastics are everywhere. The teeny tiny pieces of plastic have been found in everything from drinking water to chicken nuggets, apples, and broccoli.
Recent studies have linked these pollutants to heart disease, lung disorders, and more worrying health issues.

Naure: The distribution of subsurface microplastics in the ocean 2025-04-30

Marine plastic pollution is a global issue, with microplastics (1 µm–5 mm) dominating the measured plastic count1,2. Although microplastics can be found throughout the oceanic water column3,4, most studies collect microplastics from surface waters (less than about 50-cm depth) using net tows5. Consequently, our understanding of the microplastics distribution across ocean depths is more limited.

Latest Updates on Per- and Polyfluorinated Substances (PFAS) in Europe 2025-02-05

EU PFAS Generic Restriction – Recently leaked documents from the Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO) reveal that industry representatives are relying on legal opinions to push back against the planned regulations. A key argument is that the EU’s proposed restriction unfairly groups over 10,000 PFAS compounds together, assuming they all share the same level of risk. This broad categorization would lack a sufficient scientific basis and could make regulatory compliance unnecessarily difficult for businesses.

EU Regulation Limits PFAS in Food Packaging, Bans Single-Use Plastic Packaging for Produce 2025-02-05

New EU plastic packaging and waste regulations have been published, which limit per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in food packaging, ban single-use plastics for fruit and vegetables under a certain weight, and set forth other changes. Regulation (EU) 2025/40, also known as the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), has transition periods for different requirements beginning as early as August 12, 2026.

Microplastics: Are we facing a new health crisis – and what can be done about it? 2025-01-09

  • Microplastics have been found in the land, sea and air, across the food chain and throughout the human body.
  • It's still unclear what the environmental and health impacts of microplastics could be, but a recent study points to the possibility that they can increase the likelihood of heart attack, stroke, or death.

Forever chemicals: What are they and could they be totally banned in the EU? 2025-01-09

Since PFAS were found in the south of Lyon, Pierre-Bénite has become a European symbol in the fight against forever chemical pollution. But what are these substances exactly, and why are they causing concern across Europe?
